A Canberra woman has won the right to keep her pet Staffordshire bull terriers in her apartment complex after taking her case to the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
Power supplier Energex has asked an inquiry into Queensland’s summer floods to recommend it be given greater control over the placement of substations as a safety measure. Brisbane residents say lives were in danger when apartment block basements flooded, inundating electrical substations in January.
The recent floods have left many bodies corporate with the momentous task of repairing the damage that has been done. Ruined gardens and walkways, external walls, flooded car parks, swimming pools, damaged electricity switchboards, lifts and electrical equipment are among the list of items requiring immediate attention, the repair of which can cost very significant amounts of money.

The Building and Other Legislation Amendment Bill (No.2) 2010 (“Bill”) introduced by the Minister for Infrastructure and Planning, Stirling Hinchliffe, was passed by the Queensland Parliament on 15 September 2010. The Bill is set to come into effect on a date set by proclamation. Whilst the exact date is unknown at this time, it is expected to commence this summer.
The lot entitlement debate continues
By Ros Janes, DirectorMinister, Peter Lawlor, yesterday released for public consultation a draft of the Body Corporate and Community Management Amendment Bill 2010. The Bill is open for public consultation until 23 September 2010.
The stated objective of the amendment Bill is to provide certainty concerning body corporate costs, as well as providing more appropriate and flexible principles for the setting of contribution schedule lot entitlements.
A draft of the Body Corporate and Community Management Amendment Bill 2010 has been released for public consultation by Minister Peter Lawlor. A copy of the amendment Bill is available from www.deedi.qld.gov.au.
A change in the law will take effect on Wednesday 1 September 2010. This change represents terrific news for all bodies corporate which might be taking legal action against a lot owner for unpaid levies.
